Subject: Sewer extension application for the Fortnight Brewing Company,1006 SW Maynard Rd.
Alan and Stuart,
We are reviewing the subject application and have a couple of questions.
The narrative states this is to replace an existing sewer service. What type of business was being served by the existing
lines? Was it this same brewery? Or was there another type of business at the location?
The building has housed various businesses over the years, and they relied on a 4" gravity sewer service to the indicated
manhole. When the brewery moved into the building, they had periodic problems with the 4" service, possibly due to
the flowrate of their discharge when washing down a vat. To resolve the problem they retained an engineer in 2013,
who recommended a grinder pump station be installed. This station has proven to be a maintenance problem, and when
the station is down due to a maintenance issue it halts the brewery from serving the public or making beer. To resolve
this issue, we have proposed an 8-inch gravity sewer service. Fortnight Brewery owns both the lot where the brewery is
located, and the adjacent lot where the service will be extended across. However, since it is still a separate lot, we are
requesting the private sewer extension permit.
Has the Town of Cary been notified, and if so, approved of this project? Was it discussed to see if the Town would take
ownership of these sewer lines? Or will the line remain private?
The Town has been contacted about this line, and we have discussed the public/private options with the staff. Fortnight
decided they wanted the line to remain private, which is acceptable to the Town. The Town will have ownership and
maintenance responsibilities for the line from the manhole to the cleanout at the street right of way line, and Fortnight
will be responsible for the remainder of the service line. If a building is constructed on the adjacent lot that the service is
crossing, that building's sewer service will have to extend directly into the manhole, as they would not be allowed to
connect to Fortnight's private service line.
Thanks, we'll continue drafting the permit upon submittal and review of the above information.

Ted,
Yes, Town of Cary has reviewed this project and approves the proposed private sewer (currently utilizing a private
grinder pump station experiencing maintenance issues so they are laying a private gravity main — no increase in flow).

Subject: Sewer extension permit for 1006 SW Maynard Rd, Fortnight Brewing Company
Hi Shuyan,
Hope all is well with you.
We have an application for a sewer extension permit for a project called "Sanitary Sewer Service for the Fortnight
Brewing Company" located at 1006 SW Maynard Road. The length of sewer line to be permitted is 190 If of 8" gravity
and 55 If of 6" gravity. The narrative states this is for replacement of an existing sewer service. There is no additional
flow for this project. The flow is tributary to the South Cary WRF.
Since this is a 0 flow project there was no FTSE form submitted with the application. Just wanted to run this by you to
confirm your approval for this project, or any comments you have.
Thanks Shuyan, just let us know.
