The dimensions should therefore be the same dimension however the PSF-1,2, and 7 the dimensions are different. Are these dimensions intended to be shown from the top of sand to the overflow or are they intended to reflect some other aspect of design? Please review and make necessary corrections. Response: For most of the drainage areas, the 1yr-24 hr pre developed runoff rate was maintained or decreased in the post developed condition by having less impervious area in the post developed condition for that area. For drainage areas 1,2, and 7 the 1yr-24hr post developed runoff rate was attenuated to be at or below the pre - developed run off rate by providing more volume in the sand filter than what was needed for filtration, by adjusting the outlet control (bypass weirs) or a combination of the two. In the single sand filter vault there is one 4' wide weir leading from the filter chamber to the clearwell and one 3' wide weir leading from the permanent pool to the clearwell. The twin filter vaults have two of each. For sand filter #3,4,5 &6 the 2h, Z2 and Z3 are the same. However, on the other three sand filters where attenuation was needed, these wall heights were varied to control the release of the 1yr-24hr storm event. These are dimensioned in the detail from the top of sand filter (1'-6" from the bottom of vault). The runoff calculations provided show the resulting post -developed flow rate and maximum water surface elevation. The 3' wide weirs that were not dimensioned previously are now (D 704.333.3122 dimensioned in the sand filter details. (D 704.333.8252 www.builasmith.com 2. Please dimension the equalization chambers on the sand filter plan view of 1347 Harding Place the detail sheet. The lengths vary from filter to filter and the dimensions, as Suite 201 Charlotte, NC 28204 • Page 2 March 27, 2012 determined using the data provided, seem incorrect. Example, PSF-1, subtracting the length of the clear well chamber and the length of the filter chamber from the overall length yields the length of the equalization chamber (100.75-61.75-3.75' = 35.25') Is 35.25the dimension of the equalization chamber? Please review and correct if necessary. Response: The proposed single sand filter vault (SF #7) contains two parallel 4' wide chambers. Along one side, a portion of the overall length will contain the 3.75' clearwell chamber, (2) 3" interior walls, and the required length of sand filter with the remaining portion of the one side being a portion of the permanent pool. The entire other side minus (1) 3" interior wall would be more of the permanent pool. To calculate the surface area of the sand filter or the permanent pool, the lengths would be multiplied by 4' (width of the chamber). The remaining proposed sand filters are twin filter vaults. For the twin sand filters, there would be two "rows" of clearwell, filter, interior walls, and permanent pool and two complete rows of additional permanent pool. To calculate the surface area of the sand filter or permanent pool, the lengths would be multiplied by 8' (combined width of two chambers). In your example, the 35.25' length of the permanent pool is near correct for the portion of pool on the side of the sand filter (need to subtract 6" for (2) interior walls). In addition, there is 100.50' (100.75 minus (1) 3" interior wall) of length of permanent pool on the other side of the vault. Therefore the total length of the permanent pool = 100.50 + 34.75 = 135.25'. The surface area of the sand filter would be 494 sf (61.75' x 8') and the surface area of the permanent pool would be 1082 sf (135.25' x 8'). The available temporary volume would be 3,940 cf ((494 sf +1082 sf)x 2.5') We have added lines to the dimension table of each detail to show the length of the permanent pool (sedimentation basin). 3. The perforated drain pipe is shown to rise above the sand and below the overflow weir. Is the drain pipe capped? If not the required storm event will not be contained and treated before exiting the sand filter. If the under drain is capped please call out on the sand filter detail. Response: The perforated drain pipes are to be capped above the sand media. A note calling out a watertight cap has been added to the detail. I believe these clarifications along with the attached revised detail sheet should address your concerns. A preliminary review of that information has determined that the application is not complete.
