For projects requiring more than 5 hand borings, manpower or equipment to
conduct the excavation must be provided by the consultant
"State Soil Scientist Use ONLY
Comments As indicated in B M Lona & Associates 3/7112 Soils Report, there is at least 12" of suitable
soils above the SHWT at each of the four potential infiltration basin locations It is proposed that an additional ,
12" of fill be added to provide the re uired 24" separation from the SHWT The fill material shall be of the ty
already on site (Corolla) or another type approved by DWQ
Required Attachments
1 Legible vicinity map
2 Complete Soils Report
3 PDF formatted site plan with the boring locations to be tested Site plans should be emailed or
hand -delivered only Illegible faxed maps will not be accepted
All proposed infiltration areas and existing, active utility lines located within the proposed basinitrench
must be marked and flagged If these areas are not flagged, the Soils Scientist reserves the right to
declrne to do the investigation If the proposed infiltration system will be located in an area of existing
pavement and there is no open area nearby, equipment capable of breaking through the impervious layer
must be provided The soils investigation does not take the place of a soils report prepared by an
appropnate professional The Soils Scientist will only venfy the soil conditions that are reported in the Soils
Report, and make a determination as to the suitability of the site to meet the infiltration design
requirements under NCAC 2H 1000, and assumes no liability should the system fail

Re Storm Water Infiltration Study
Tax Parcel #245FA005
Lot 83
S-B Colonel Beach
966 Ocean Blvd West
Dear Michael
On March 7, 2012, 1 made an evaluation of the proposed storm -water infiltration at the
above site The purpose of this evaluation was to describe the soil profile, quality the
depth to the seasonal high water table to determine soil texture, to identify the infiltration
ratio and to inform the project engineer of any potential limitations to this project
The soil on this site is mapped Corolla in the Soil Survey of Brunswick County USA
1986 Actual soil borings confirm the soil to be in the Corolla soil series
The Corolla soil can best be described as somewhat poorly diained soils on the Coastal
Barrier Islands in low areas adjacent to undulating sand ridges Most areas are long and
irregular in width and shape
The seasonal high water table is normally evident by observation of redoximorphic
features and soil color suggesting past condition of saturation and reduction 1 here is
evidence of soil color from the four holes that I dug and it v5 in) opinion that the seasonal
high water on hole #1 is 12 inches, hole #2 is 13 inches, hole 43 is 16 inches and hole #4
is 12 inches from the natural soil surface (see map for location of holes)
In summary, the test holes were placed on this lot upon project engineer's request For
difference in elevations see enclosed map which identify the elevation of each hole
There is 553 sq ft of this lot that is impacted by wetland as shown on neap 7 he coastal
wetlands and the 404 USACF line was flagged on 08/17/201 1 (see map) I here are areas
of concern and should be addressed before and after construction of any kind take place
It is expected that from the four soil borings that were dug on this lot, the infiltration rate
is in a range of 15 to 20 inches per hour
