The site inspection was performed by Vincent Lewis (NCDENR), Linda Lewis (NCDENR), James A. Parker (owner), Michael R. Kersting (architect) and Charles Cazier (engineer). See enclosed plan for location. Test Hole No. 1: Found to have a shallow water table. The proposed bottom system to be at natural grade. Test Hole No. 2: Found to have a shallow water table. Did not suggest this area for inlfiltration. Test Hole No. 3: Light gray sand with a SHGWT at 4.5' (elevation 37.0). Bottom of trench to be at elevation 39.0. Parker Reference: Double Ring Wiltrorneeter Testing Parker Tract North Ma ket Street @ Porters Neck Road New Hanover County, North Carolina. Sob No. 1063.04-488 Dear NIr. Parka: page 2 PAGE 1/5 As requested, S&NM personnel have recently conducted two double -ring irdltrometer tests of the shu5cial soils at the subject site st the approximate locations shown in Figure 1. Specifically, our representatives performed the following work items on October, 21 2004. 1. Advanced one haled-augered boring near each intfiItrometer test location in order to visually classify the in -place soils. A Munsell Soil Color Chart was used to define the but and chroma of the recovered soil samples. 2. Conducted two double -ring inblttometer tests at depths rat>Iging•fivm 4 inches to 5 ind%es below the existing ground surface. The root rust and organialaden soils were rernovcd in order to perform our tests on the in -place sands. This testing was conductcd in general accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) procedure D-3385 entitled, "infiltration Rate of Soils in Ficld Using Double -Ring Infilt vantter". Based on our field classifications of the excavated soils at the bzW-augemd boring locations, the in - place soils consist of slightly sihy sands. These soils extended to the maximum completed boring depth of 48 inches below the existing ground surface. Water was encountered in the boreholes near the double -ring mfilh=neter test locations at depths ranging from 21 to 44 inches below the existing ground surface. The site water level will flwtuate with climatic and seasonal conditions, however, and may be higher or lower at other times of the year. The U.S. Depardnent of Agriculture Soil CoAservation Service publication entitled, 'Soil Survey of New Hanover County, North Carolina", indicates that the seasonal high vmw table occurs within 12 inches of the ground surface at this site.
