The Western Wake Partners (WWP) plan to locate this facility near the center of the unincorporated town of New Hill. This plan concerns us, as New Hill residents, for several reasons one of which is our concern for the environment. We chose to move to New Hill 18 years ago, to enrich our quality of life by "planting" ourselves in a community that offered a quiet, rural atmosphere offering plenty of trees and wildlife. We have enjoyed the refreshment that comes from living outside the hubbub of the cities and towns that are growing so quickly around us and appreciate that New Hill is the last, best "back to nature" community in Wake County. Now, we fear for the potential disruption to our environment if the waste water treatment facility is located in New Hill. The selected site is located several miles from any of the municipalities that will use it. Raw sewage will be pumped from those towns to the plant site. The proposed routes go through areas in which a spill might not be detected for days or longer. The recent sewer line break in Cary has heightened our concerns about the potential effects on our community. New Hill residents rely on wells for our drinking water. The area is replete with creeks and ponds some of which are used to water livestock and crops. How will New Hill be provided with ample clean water if our wells, streams, and ponds become contaminated? We beseech you to help us preserve the tranquility and environment of New Hill by denying the permit for the Western Wake Regional Waste Water Treatment Facility to be placed here. We also ask that you re-evaluate the other sites in this geographic region that can serve the WWP's needs in meeting the inter-basin transfer and lead the WWP to a more suitable location.
