Dear Ms. O'Neil,
This letter is in response to your letter dated January 10, 2010 concerning your comments on
submerged aquatic vegetation SAV and shellfish habitat in the vicinity

area. On October 03, 2009, Ms. Amy Lewis, PE and myself surveyed transects along the
centerline of the proposed dredging channel to determine water depths and the presence of
SAV's and shellfish within the project. Thirty foot transects were surveyed perpendicular to the
proposed center line at 40 ft intervals. In addition, a 75 ft transect was surveyed perpendicular to
the proposed dredging in the boat basin at the head of the existing pier. The survey was
conducted during mean low tide with waters depths ranging from 0.5 - 3.0 ft. The survey was
conducted using visual observations while walking each perpendicular transects.
The substrate along transects I & 2 was found to be muddy loam and water clarity was high due
to the shallow water column. Water depths within these transect was approximately 2 ft. No
shell fish.or SAV's were observed in this area. The substrate within transects 3-11 consisted of a
sandy loam to sand. Water clarity was high and water depths ranged from 0.5 -3.0 ft. No SAV's
or shellfish were observed along these transects. An oyster bed was noted to the west of the
survey area between transects 5 & 6, however the outer edge of the bed was approximately 20 ft
outside of the survey and project area.
Conclusion: No eel grass (Zostera marinia),widgeon grass (Ruppia maritime), shoal grass
(Halodule wrightt'i) or shellfish were observed within the survey and project area.
