Michael,
The NOV 202000402 referenced SSO that occurred on Thursday,
February 6, 2020, was in related to a severe thunderstorm event
that occurred in the Town of Badin that inundated the sewer
collection system and resulted in a spill of an estimated 32,000
gallons at the Badin WWTP. The flow is a result of infow an
infiltration coming into the aged collection system. Attached is the
expected weather report and an updated weather report of what
occurred in Stanly County.
We are actively engaged in seeking a CDBG Grant through the
Wooten Company to make improvements in the West Badin area to
find and fix sources of inflow and infiltration. It my current
understanding of the system that many the gravity sewer mains in
this area were slipped lined in the mid gos but there has been
shrinkage of the pipeliners that is allowing infiltration to enter into
the manholes. A larger concern is the age of the system's private
service connections which are predominantly Orangeburg or
terra cotta, which are decaying and allowing infiltration to enter the
system through cracks in the service laterals. We are looking at
implementing a program make the property owners repairs these
mains offer some financial assistance to have the repairs completed.
Thanks,
1

Radar and Hazard Summary as of is 20 PM IA
DailVdIL The severe thu nderstorm and

N. central North Carolina. However,
the risk for street flooding and
flooding of low-lying areas will
continue through the early overnight

The radarimage to the left, as of
