On September 30, 2020, I examined most streams on the project as I said I would at the last merger meeting. I examined streams/crossings for
the following: 1) existing culvert outlet condition, 2) likelihood of fish in stream presence based on size, or direct observation of fish in pools, if
present, and 3) likely pass-ability in the stream by fish if the road was not present (that is but for the road). For reference I embedded notes in
the topo maps that are in the attached pJD.
In summary, I observed 5 streams (crossings are green circles) that should, based on my past survey work experience in the region and bpj,
support fish communities. Pictures of the culvert outlets on each of these are attached. I have pictures of most all other streams as well.
It is important to note that stream flows on the survey day were high and the river stage elevated (see river picture and data in screenshot
below), due to recent rains from tropical storm remnants. Therefore, I could not observe the lower connections of streams to the river channel
during a much more normal river stage. However, based on topography, those streams under the road where the road closely parallels the
road appear too small to support fish and regardless would likely be isolated from the river by topography at the river bank or a short distance
upstream where slope increased and/or natural falls were present.
Pleased advise if you have any questions.
