Matt,
I have no additional comments. I am assuming that the Regional Office visit on 9/9/20 meets the criteria of the
requirement for an inspection to determine that stormwater can be discharged via outfalls SW009 and SW010.
Do you have an estimated date the permit modification will be signed and can you send an electronic copy of the final
permit mod?
Thank you for your assistance.
Joyce

Hi Joyce,
Here is final draft of the Dan River Minor Mod. I wanted to give you an opportunity to look over it with the changes I
stated below before it is issued. Please let me know once you have had a chance to look it over, and I will officially issue
the minor mod.
Thank you,
Matt

Hi Joyce,
I am planning to do the final edits on the draft minor modification for Dan River soon, and I wanted to see if you would
had prepared any comments on the draft I sent you. After the inspection the only change that will likely be made to the
draft minor modification will be to change the coal ash constituent monitoring for outfall 10 from semi-annual only
during coal ash transport to a semi-annual frequency. This would mean that the priority pollutant metals and boron in
table 6 would be on the same monitoring frequency as the other parameters in this table.
Thank you,
Matt

Matt,
I have attached an electronic copy of the renewal update submitted in August. The hardcopy was received 8/6/20 in the
mail service center. Thank you for forwarding the draft minor modification. I will respond with any comments this
week. Tyler Pearson is scheduled to visit the site on 9/9/20.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Dan River Minor Mod
Hi Joyce,
I hope you're doing well. I apologize for the confusion, the inspection Tyler requested is mainly for the permit minor
modification. I think the Regional Office would like to go ahead and conduct a full inspection as the permit renewal for
Dan River will be coming up soon. Our goal is to issue the permit minor modification prior to the expiration of your
existing permit at the end of September. There is not a draft of the renewed permit yet, but I can provide you with a
draft of the permit minor modification. The draft permit modification is still awaiting comments from the Regional
Office. If you have any comments on the minor modification please let me know in time to incorporate them into the
minor modification before it will need to be issued.
Here is part of the draft approval letter which notes the changes made in the minor modification:
This modification includes the following changes from your current permit:
• Modifications to the permit in Part II on page on 9 of 18, to designate the sampling location for SW002;
• Modifications to the permit in Part II on page 10 of 18, to include Outfall SWO02 in the analytical
monitoring requirements listed in Table 5;
• Modifications to the permit in Part II on page 10 of 18 to designate the sampling location for SW010;
• Modifications to the permit in Part II on pages 6-10 of 18 to update verbiage that referred to
construction/demolition activities that have now been completed; and
• Revisions to the permit cover page to reflect the latest amendment date.
On the topic of the permit renewal. I had requested some information for the permit renewal including a summary of
monitoring data, and I wanted to check on the status of that information. In our earlier emails on August 18t" you had
said you would provide the information by Thursday of that week. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't already sent it
and that it was lost somewhere along the way.
