Page#1 9/14/2020 NPDES yr/mo/day 20/09/11 Inspection Type C3111218 1 Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) On 9/11/2020, I (Daniel Boss) conducted a compliance evaluation inspection of the wastewater treatment facility at 66 Lake Lure Highway. I met with Kendall (resident) for the inspection and Kendall had Curtis McCart on speaker phone for assistance. The system was checked for proper operation one week prior by Sid Gaskin who installed the system. The UV bulb was replaced and is now working. This wastewater system consists of a septic tank, fixed film biomass pod system, recirculation tank, UV disinfection, and cascade aeration. The cascade was covered with rocks, but they were not inhibiting the effluent flow and I could still see the effluent pipe. The effluent appeared clear and did not have a detectable odor. Samples have not been taken for this system. Sampling and analysis should be done annually if the system is discharging. NCG551185 17 (Cont.) Are high and low water alarms operating properly? This system has only been in operation for 3 years with only partial residency. The septic tank was checked one week ago and it did not need pumping yet. Comment: Sand Filters (Low rate)Yes No NA NE (If pumps are used) Is an audible and visible alarm Present and operational? (Approximately 3 to 1) This is not a sand filter system, but rather a fixed film biomass pod system. It appeared to be operating fine. Comment: Disinfection - UV Yes No NA NE Are extra UV bulbs available on site? Are UV bulbs clean? Is UV intensity adequate? Is transmittance at or above designed level? Is there a backup system on site? Is effluent clear and free of solids? This system has only one UV bulb. If it malfunctions, there is a visual alarm light on the control box.
