Dear Permittee:
You are receiving this letter because your residence or business has a wastewater system that discharges to
surface water. In the next 15 days, the Division of Water Resources, Asheville Regional Office, would like to
schedule an inspection to determine if your system is operating in compliance with your NCG550000 General
NPDES permit. Due to recommended guidance related to the COVID19 pandemic, to ensure your safety and the
safety of the inspector, we will attempt to conduct portions of the inspection primarily by phone, mail and/or email.
An on-site visit, to visually inspect your system, is also necessary to ensure system compliance. Please note, you
will not need to be present for the on-site portion and if you are present, interaction with the inspector is not
necessary. The inspector will attempt to contact you following the on-site portion of the inspection to address any
additional questions.
Please be prepared to answer following questions regarding your system;
Is access to the discharge pipe maintained? Does the system discharge regularly?
If your system discharges, do you have annual sampling records?
Do you annually inspect the septic tank? Has it been pumped in the past five years?
If inspectors are granted access to your property, face masks will be worn in accordance with DEQ Covid19
guidance. Should you wish to be present during the inspection, a minimum of six feet of separation will be
maintained at all times.
To further discuss your system, please contact me at 828-782-0064 or via email at Lauren.Armeni@ncdenr.gov.
Sincerely,
Lauren Armeni, Environmental Specialist
