The North Carolina Division of Water Resources (DWR) conducted an inspection of the Waynesville WWTP on
August 4th and August 6th, 2020. This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in
compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NC0025321.

Please note, due to a sampling error, the results obtained by the DWR Bioassay Laboratory were not based on a
true split. The Asheville Regional Office will schedule with the Town of Waynesville to resample during the
November quarterly toxicity sampling event.

Mikal Willmer, with the Asheville Regional Office, performed a bioassay compliance inspection of the
Town of Waynesville's WWTP. Whole Effluent samples were split on Tuesday August 4th and
Thursday August 6th for use in a Chronic Ceriodaphnia dubia pass-fail toxicity test. The Town's
samples were analyzed by ETS and will be reported on the August DMR. DWR's samples were
analyzed by our Bioassay Laboratory in Raleigh and resulted in a fail.
Please note, due to an error in sampling, the results obtained by the State laboratory were not
representative of a true split and is one potential cause for the failure. Because of this error, this
inspection will not be assessed for compliance. An additional split will be performed during your next
quarterly sampling event in November.
