Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov<mailto:report.spam@nc.gov> Helen, The denitrification process has been a challenge with slow recovery since Florence. Construction debris killed off the bacteria and the extremely low flows following the storm due to reconstruction inhibited bacteria regrowth. Routinely in the spring and fall the solids are removed by pumping/ cleaning out the settling tanks and recip tanks. Due to an increase in occupancy starting the early spring and into the summer months it has been difficult to accomplish this. Twice we have scheduled the cleaning with the pump truck and manager. Both times when the pump truck arrived the truck was unable to access the tanks due to cars blocking the area adjacent to the tanks. Changing the process control timers in an attempt is a slow process. The system does not react quickly like an activated sludge system. We plan to reschedule the tank cleaning for solid removal when the flows and occupancy decreases. The manufacturer also recommends cleaning the media. We will half to close down half the plant to accomplish this. This will involve tankard trucks of hydrogen peroxide. We will have to locate and hire an outside vendor experienced in this type of work. This will be a very involved process. There has been a change in management at the facility so efforts to coordinate the tank cleaning will hopefully improve. We are also changing the ORC for the facility from Stanley Buck to Don OMara. Thank You, Don OMara Sent from my iPad
