I met with the Clinton RE office today on B-4813 in Sampson County to discuss the scour around the interior bent that
we discussed with you on 4/27/20. As shown in the attached photos, the stream bank is scoured out where the
previous interior bent and two helper bents existed. The interior bent for the new structure is on the outer edge of this
scour as shown on the attached revised permit drawing (4B) dated 5/5/20 . To prevent additional scour, instability and
sedimentation, the Department is proposing to backfill and stabilize the scoured bank with Class II rip rap which result in
an additional 31 lf of bank stabilization (new project total for bank stabilization = 72 lf). The area to be backfilled with rip
rap is highlighted in red on the attached permit drawing 4B.

The project was a courtesy notification and is being constructed under NW 3/NW 13 and corresponding GC
4132/4134. The Department believes that this revision is covered under the current authorization and no further
actions are required. Please let the Department know if you agree with this proposal and agree that no further
approvals are required, by responding to this e-mail.
