Description of Collection System or Treatment Process:
The Smoky Mountain Center operates an existing wastewater treatment system consisting of an
extended aeration type system, with a clarifier, chlorine contact basin, chlorine tablet feeder,
and dechlorination on Timberlane Road west of Waynesville, Haywood County, NC. Discharge
from said treatment is released into Richland Creek, which are classified Class B waters in the
French Broad River Basin.
II. PERFORMANCE
Summary of System Performance July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009
July 14, 2008: The Balsam Center received a notice of violation for failure to monitor total
chlorine residual twice weekly for the week of 2/2/08. Total chlorine residual was monitored
and the discharge monitoring report was amended. In addition, no bypasses or overflows
occurred.
