Land use in the project vicinity is predominately maintained highway and right of way.Adjacent land use consists of forested,agricultural,residential,and commercial properties.

Installation of conduit containing broadband fiber will be coupled with microcell towers and Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS)equipment to provide variable message signs along I-
95 and to implement integrated corridor management.
Additionally,installation of conduit maximizes the innovative contracting opportunities that can arise
from allowing private sector to have access to the trunk line.Implementation will provide high speed
internet access to under served communities closing the internet service gap between urban and rural
households in eastern North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation(NCDOT)proposes to install broadband fiber along the 1-95 from the Virginia state line to the South Carolina state line.The conduit
used for the project will be installed entirely within the existing NCDOT right of way.Anticipated equipment to be used includes dump trucks,plows,dozers,trenchers,backhoes,and
boring equipment.

submitted to USACE previously.

All work will occur within the existing NCDOT right of way.There will be no impacts to jurisdictional streams.When streams are encountered along
corridor,conduit will either be attached to the existing structure or directionally bored under the stream.All wetlands with a length of 50 feet or greater
will be directionally bored,resulting in no impact.

Where applicable,NCDOT"Design Standards in Sensitive Watersheds"will be adhered to.Once installed,the fiber optic lines will not require
maintenance and the areas will be allowed to revert to the pre-installation state.
