Shield Engineering, Inc. (Shield), on behalf of Jim Myers and Sons, Inc. (IMS) is submitting the
following items:
• Notice of Intent for Coverage under NPDES Permit NCG030000
• Request for Representative Outfall Status
• Request for Change in Monitoring Location
JMS is an existing facility; a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is currently being prepared for
the facility and will be developed and implemented in accordance with Part III, Section A, Item 1
of NCG030000.
Notice of Intent for Coverage under NPDES Permit NCG030000
Shield has prepared the attached NOI and supporting documentation for JMS which includes a
USGS site location map (Figure 1) and a rough draft Facility Map (Figure 2). The NOI requests
coverage under NCG030000 for stormwater associated with metal fabricating industrial activities
as JMS is classified with SIC code 3589 and discharges stormwater associated with its industrial
activity into the Charlotte Mecklenburg MS4. The associated fee for the NOI is also attached.
Request for Representative Outfall Status
Shield has identified 3 drainage areas at the facility as shown in Figure 2 of the NOI sbumittal.
The industrial activities take place in two drainage areas; a third drainage area at the back of the
property is not associated with industrial activity. The drainage areas for these two outfalls
associated with industrial activity are substantially the same with regards to the types of
industrial activity which occur in the area as shown in Figure 2. Shield expects the pollutant
characteristics of the stormwater discharge for each of these areas to be similar. Therefore,JMS
is requesting Representative Outfall Status for stormwater discharge outfall 002 to allow
sampling to occur only at outfall 001.

Request for Change in Monitoring Location
Outfall 001 and 002 are located at the property line in a manhole in the center of the only
driveway to the facility from Westinghouse. Due to potential safety issues of sampling at the
intersection of Westinghouse Boulevard and the main drive during a storm event, JMS is
requesting that monitoring occur for Outfall 001 (and representatively for Outfall 002)at the final
storm inlet in the drainage area for Outfall 001 (as shown on Figure 2). This inlet combines
stormwater from the entire drainage area and will therefore provide a safe, but still
representative monitoring location for Outfall 001.
