Hey Dave,

A utility company working on HWY 268, R-2603, apparently got into a wetland area and tore things up a bit. It’s within
our project area, nr station 120-125 Lt., but not related to NCDOT, the project, or our contractor. It’s a separate entity
that isn’t moving an existing utility for us, but instead, they showed up recently and have been putting in some new
heavy duty fiber optic/internet type material, and is somehow related to Facebook. That’s all I know for now, but trying
to learn more. I wanted to let you know, in case you hear of any complaints about the wetland disturbance. I’ve been
told that it has nothing to do with us, and our staff self-reported the issue to me and has contacted the utility involved.

I’m going to meet on site next week, probably on Monday or Tuesday. The utility has asked us how to best fix. My
suggestion to the utility will probably be to erect erosion control measures where needed and then seed with riparian
seed mix and mulch. It looks fairly flat to me, but if there are disturbed areas with some slope to them beside the
wetland then I may suggest they put coir fiber on top of that after seeding. Are there other things that are typically
done to help restore disturbed wetlands? I think / hope it will heal back fairly quickly given the time of year.
