This request is tied to NCDWR Project No. 20200922, Version 1, Project Name: Rodanthe Bridge
Transmission Line, South End
The powerline relocation will include a directional bore from high ground near the existing NC 12 roadway to
an underground vault in the wetlands near the southern end of the bridge. Over 800' of conduit pipe will need
to be laid out near the existing underground vault under the bridge prior to the underground bore. Due to
limited space in that area, the intent is to temporarily float the pipe into the Pamlico Sound. The capped HDPE
pipe will float on its own and be tied off to the existing bridge piles in the water to prevent it from moving.
Approximately 725' of the pipe will be floating in the Sound during the directional bore operation and not for
an extended period of time.
