Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov<mailto:report.spam@nc.gov> Amy, I don't have a preference provided the material is contained. I have had some correspondence with NOAA but it has been slow. I suspect this could put you back in line for a response. Mason <tmherndon@ncdot.gov>; Rivenbark, Chris <crivenbark@ncdot.gov> Subject: \[Non-DoD Source\] Isabelle Holmes bridge--proposed trenching method Brad, Joanne, and Stephen, As you may recall, the Isabelle Holmes drawbridge conveys US 74/NC 133 over the Northeast Cape Fear River; as part of a preservation project, an underwater cable that works the drawbridge mechanism is being replaced (FYI, permit applications have not yet been submitted for this work). The original proposed trenching method used a crane with a clamshell bucket mounted on a barge, with removed material disposed of off-site. However, Division would like to explore using a hydraulic suction pump instead (see attached info); divers would use a handheld vacuum device powered by a hydraulic pump (mounted on a barge) to remove sediment, which would be captured in geotextile dewatering bags and disposed of off-site. DOT proposed the clamshell method in their original coordination with NMFS for Atlantic sturgeon (since this is critical habitat) and before we present this proposed change to NMFS, we wanted to make sure the pump method would be acceptable to you all. Please let me know if you have any questions.
