RESPONSE TO INTERRUPTION IN TRAINING DUE TO COVID-19
Background:
The City was preparing and started training to meet Stormwater Phase II program
requirements.
Stormwater Smart has specific in person training that meet Pollution Prevention and
Good Housekeeping and IDDE needs. This training was being evaluated for
implementation.
The Public Services Director performed training for Recycling Waste & Collection
department on 2/28/2020. Effects of COVID-19 suspended further training.
Review:
Currently the City of Lexington is still under a State of Emergency, offices closed to the
public, some office employees teleworking, crews working staggered hours, if more than
one employee is in a vehicle masks are required, etc.to responsibly social distance and
reduce chance of contagion.
Many employees (especially in operational units) do not have a dedicated city computer
and must share a computer. They typically have one computer in their breakroom or
common area. The City is concerned that essential operations will be disrupted if
COVID-19 infects or causes quarantine of a significant number of essential staff. We
have had self -quarantines and several employees test positive for the virus to date.
Even though it has impacted several departments, fortunately it has not been in
sufficient numbers to disrupt operations.
COVID-19 and responsible social distancing has been in place longer than anyone
anticipated.
Response:
Stormwater Smart is looking at how they can adapt their in -person training to virtual
training. The City is poised to resume in -person training and virtual training as soon as
conditions allow.
