MEMORANDUM

FROM: Jacquelyn M. Nowell
SUBJECT: Drainage Area and Flows of Denton WWTP discharge point
Permit No. NCO026689
Davidson County
The NPDES Permit Unit has reviewed your memorandum of September 23, 1998
regarding the existing and proposed discharge points for the subject facility.
Corresponding drainage areas for each site were evaluated after receipt of another map
where the sites were more clearly delineated. The drainage area at the permitted site (1)
is 26.2 mil with a 7Q10 of 0 cfs and 30Q2 = 0.09 cfs. This site has a latitude 350 37'
22" an&longitude 80' 09' 22". There is an unnamed tributary with a drainage area of
approximately 4.2 mi2 (USGS Station No. 0212252615) just upstream of this discharge
site. This tributary has flows of 7Q10'= 0 and 30Q2 = 0. The drainage area of the
proposed site (2) would then be about 22 mi2 with a 7Q10 =0 and 30Q2 = 0.08 efs.
This site has a latitude 35' 37' 27" and longitude 80' 09' 17". As mentioned in your
memo, there is no significant difference in the flows at either site.
Please contact me if any additional info is needed.

MEMQRANDUM
TO: John Royal
FROM: Steve Mauney
SUBJECT: Denton WWTP.FIans
Davidson County
We have conducted a brief review of the plans for Denton's upgrade to 0. 8 MOD
capacity and have found them to be satisfactory, The sequence of construction was reviewed
and found to be appropriate.
The only issue that has come to light is the difference between the discharge point listed
hi the permit and the currently proposed discharge point Long-800 09' 17", Lat-35° 37' 2T'_
This new discharge paint is about 500' upstream of the Qriginal proposed site and is above the
junction point of a Lick Creek tributary which contributes about one and a half square miles of
drainage. Since the original site had 26_2 square miles, this 6% reduction in drainage area is not
expected to have a significant impact on the 30Q2 flow which at the downstream site is indicated
to be 0.09 CFS, It is recommended that Denton be advised to apply for a minor permit
modification as this only involves a five (5) second change in both the latitude and longitude.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment on this project. Call me or Abner Braddy if any
questions.
