Attached, please find the Project Description for the Cape Fear River Bridges along US 701. The river survey show that
there has been little change in the scour along the northern shore. The southern shore now has a 13 foot deep scour
hole developed creating a critical issue with the factor of safety declining to 1. Stabilization of the river must be initiated
immediately to ensure that the bridge structures remain safe. I will be in contact with you in this regards to ensure that
you are kept aware of what is going on during this unusual operational period.
I have also attached the “Preliminary Bridge Plans” . ICE of the Carolinas was just approved for the final bridge design
plans.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me.
