I just wanted to keep you informed of the status of the US 701 Bridge in Elizabethtown. The good news is that there has
been no significant movement this week. The survey team completed the underwater scanning of the river bottom and
a map plus cross-sections should be available some time today or tomorrow. We have a meeting on-site this afternoon
to discuss all of the analysis to determine the course of action. The meeting will be attended by a couple of bridge
contractors to gauge constructability issues. What goes on with the bridge is still predicated on the placement of the
Class 7 stone to prevent the plate sliding. We are reviewing the project with a contractor to start the process as soon as
possible to ensure that there is not a catastrophic failure of the bridge.
Concern is now for both bridges being that the southbound bridge is even older with no idea of it’s subsurface
condition.
Hopefully I can provide more information after this meeting today.
