Crazy busy with work on projects. We will definitely follow the Riparian buffer rules. I think the word potential is only if it was authorized by Duke. To my knowledge we don't have to remove any trees. There is some brush on the far end opposite of the dock. That would only be impacted with the work installing the shoreline but certainly is 3" size or less. If any other information on trees needs to be addressed I will pass along info to homeowners about arborists but I feel we are good. I've built quite a few segmental walls/ rip rap sea walls on the lake and will abide by the rules. I noticed that there was mention of potential removal of trees from the buffer, however as per the Catawba Riparian Buffer rules, there is to be no removal of trees of 3" diameter or greater at breast height from within 30' of high water. The only exceptions are when the trees are severely undermined or diseased. If they are thought to be diseased, then I would need official documentation from a licensed arborist. Either way, I would also need photographic documentation of said trees. If the trees are required to be removed in order to accomplish the project, then we would require that for every tree that is removed, a tree of 3" diameter or greater at breast height, 8' tall, and of a native species be planted somewhere within the 30' buffer to take its place. If you could please clarify the situation, that would be most appreciated.
