Silt Fence Specifications

have projections to aid in fastening the wire or fabric. Steel posts shall also
have a metal plate welded new the bottom such that when the post is driven
to the proper depth, the plate will be below the ground level for added stability,
2 Woven Wire Fence shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A 116,
Class 1 zinc coating for wire. The fence shall be at least 32 in high and shall
have at least 6line (horizontal) wires. Stay (vertical) wires shall be spaced
12 in. apart. The top and bottom wires shall be 10 gage. All other wires shall
be 12'. gage.
3. Filter Fabric shall be composed of fibers consisting of long chain synthetic
polymers composed of at least 85% by weight of polvolefins, polyesters, or
polyamides. The fibers shall be formed into a network such that the filaments
or yams retain dimensional stability relative to each other. The filter fabric shall
be free of any treatment or coating which might adversely alter its physical
properties after installation. The fabric shall be free of defects or Flaws which
significantly affect its physical and/or filtering properties. The fabric shall have
a minimum width of 36 inches.
The filter fabric shall be furnished with suitable wrapping for protection against
moisture and extended ultraviolet prior to placement.
The filter fabric shall meet the following minimum physical requirements:

4. A 6 in. x 6 in. trench shall be dug on the upstream side of the silt fence.
The silt fence shall line the trench and extend up the posts for the remainder
of the fabric width. The trench shall then be tinkfilled and tamped. Silt fence
fabrics shall be spliced together only at supporting posts with a minimum of
6 in. of overlap and in such a manner to prevent silt from passing between
the two ends, At the time of installation, the fabric will be rejected if it has any
defects, deterioration, or other damage incurred during manufacture,
transportation, or storage.

Netting Installation Specifications.
1. Start the laying of net from the top of the upstream end of the channel and
unroll it downgrade. Do NOT stretch netting.
2. Bury the upslope end and staple the net every 12" across the top end, every
3 feet around the edges and across the net so that the straw is held closely
against the soil. Do NOT stretch the netting when stapling.
3. Netting strips should be joined together along the sides with a 3" overlap
and stapled together.
4. To join ends of stripps, insert the new roll of net in a trench as with upslope,
end and overlapit IS" with the previously laid upper roll. Turn under 6" of
the 18" overlap and staple even 12" across the end.

4. Should the groundwater drawdown curve indicate an impact to the
adjacent unnamed stream, assessment of the impact and proposed
modifications to the mine dewatering activity shall be provided to
the Water Quality Section within 30 days of the last water level
measurement.
Erosion Control Sequence and Reclamation Considerations
1. Reconstruct Basin No. I with installation of the pipe conduit
system and Faircloth Skimmer.
2. Continue mining to the east and north with beneficial fill
placed for reclamation of the mine. Final beneficial fill
slopes shall be 2:1 (H:V) or flatter.
3. Increase Basin No. I surface area when benficial fill area
covers the north side of the mine.
4. Add Basin No. 2 and silt fence as needed with the
progression of beneficial fill placement.
5. ConstrUCt di\ ersion berms upslope of beneficial till.

7. Re -vegetate the ground per the existing mine permit
requirements.
8. Once ground cover is established, remove basins and silt

Maintenance Plan
1. All erosion and sediment control practices shall be checked for stability
and operation following every runoff -producing rainfall, but in no case less
than once weekly, Any needed repairs will be made immediately to maintain
all practices as designed.
2. Sediment will be removed from the basins when accumulation is 2 ft.
3. Check Faircloth Skimmer for any defects and repair as needed. If skimmer
is imbedded in the sediment, pull skimmer from the sediment and allow
the skimmer to rest on top of the sediment surface.
4. At Basin No. 2, remove and replace stone filter when stone is clogged
with fine sediment.
5. Check silt fence for any failure and repair as needed.

modifications to the mine dewatering activity shall be provided to
the Water Quality Section within 30 days of the last water level
measurement.
Erosion Control Sequence and Reclamation Considerations
1. Reconstruct Basin No. 1 with installation of the pipe conduit
system and Faircloth Skimmer.
2. Continue mining to the east and north with beneficial fill
placed for reclamation of the mine. Final beneficial fill
slopes shall be 2:1 ([l:V) or flatter.
3. Increase Basin No. 1 surface area when benficial till area
covers the north side of the mine.
4. Add Basin No. 2 and silt fence as needed with the
progression of beneficial fill placement.
5. Construct diversion beans upslope of beneficial fill.
6. Remove haul roads and grade area flat except at tle office
area near the entrance of the mine. [bad and parking will
remain in place at this location.
7. Re -vegetate the ground per the existing mine permit
requirements.
8. Once ground cover is established, remove basins and silt
fence and re -vegetate area.
Maintenance Plan
1 1. All erosion and sediment control practices shall be checked for stability
and operation following every runoff -producing rainfall, but in no case less
than once weekly. Any needed repairs will be made immediately to maintain
all practices as designed.
2. Sediment will be removed from the basins when accumulation is 2 ft,
3. Check Faircloth Skimmer for any defects and repair as needed. If skimmer
is imbedded in the sediment, pull skimmer from the sediment and allow
i the skimmer to rest on top of the sediment surface.
14. At Basin No. 2, remove and replace stone filter when stone is clogged
with fine sediment.
5. Check silt fence for any failure and repair as needed.
