Henning AH Environmental Specialist Il, Aquatic Toxicology Branch (ATB) Subject: Whole effluent toxicity test results New Bern WWTP NPDES Permit # NCO025348/001 Craven County The aquatic toxicity test using a composite sample of effluent discharged from the New Bern WWTP has been completed. New Bern WWTP has a permitted effluent discharge of 7.0 million gallons per day (MGD) entering Neuse River. Whole effluent samples were collected on June 23 by Robbie Bullock for use in an acute Mysidopsis bahia pass -fail toxicity test. The test using these samples resulted in a pass. Toxicity test information follows. Test Type Test Concentration Test Result Control Survival Test Treatment Survival Sample pH Sample Conductivity Sample Total Residual Chlorine Acute 24-hour Mysidopsis bahia pass -fail 90% Pass 100% 100% 8.28 SU 37,700 micromhos/cm <0.1 mg/L Test results for the above sample indicate that the effluent would not be predicted to have water quality impacts on receiving water. Please contact us if you have any questions or if further effluent toxicity monitoring is desired. We may be reached at (919) 743-8401. Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) On 6/23/2020 at 10:OOam Paul Mays and Robbie Bullock from the Washington Regional Office conducted a Bioassay Compliance Inspection of New Bern WWTP. All required records and documents were examined for compliance of permit #NC0025348. February 2020 DMR and corresponding lab data was reviewed by Paul Mays. No discrepancies were found between the lab data and data reported on the DMR. The DMR was complete, all required the data wa: present and reported at the frequency required by permit #NC0025348. The ORC visitation log, annual compliance report and a copy of the permit were also readily available for review. The staff were very helpful and provided all the required documents, records, and data for the inspection. The facility was well kept and clean. All units were operational and well maintained by staff. The only possible concern were some grease particles present in the secondary clarifiers during the inspection. Regardless, the effluent looked good and no major issues were found. Effluent and Influent Flow Meters were calibrated on 8/20/2019 The permit expired Jun 30, 2018 and a new one is currently in draft The facility passed the toxicity test.
