Watersheds Draining to
the Pamlico River
R. W. Skaggs
G.M. Chescheir
D.M. Amatya
Objectives
• To measure outflows on a continuous basis
from 8 small Pamlico River watersheds
• To record water table depths at specific
locations on the watersheds
• To measure soil properties affecting
hydrology of the watersheds
• To calibrate and apply computer models to
characterize the hydrology of the watersheds
Conclusions
• Outflow mostly driven by surface
runoff and shallow subsurface flow
• Flow occurs when water table close to
surface
• Annual outflow varied between 3% and
27% of annual precipitation
• Both timing and amount of outflow can
be predicted with the DRAINMOD (cal.)
