Hello Annette,
Per our previous conversation, I wanted to check the status of the review of the Dan River permit renewal application for
issuance of a minor modification to facilitate completion of closure of the ash basins. The landfill cap project is scheduled
for completion in September of this year and the permit expires 9/30/20. It is my concern that once the permit expires
there will not be an option for minor modification and there needs to be time allowance to prepare and submit the minor
modification request.
Thank you for your consideration in completing this project.

No, I am waiting to see if I need to submit a modification to at least get the ash basin closure covered.

Joyce

Hello Annette,
I wanted to check the status of the review of Dan River's renewal application to determine if we can request a minor
modification for required changes we discussed on our call on 6/4/2020 to ensure Dan River can return flow to the river
once the landfill cap is complete. As discussed, the project team will need the modification to remove berms and open
culverts for final closure. The estimated project completion is third quarter of 2020.
1 am available to discuss the path forward at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration.

Annette,
Per our conversation, I have attached the updated outfall map and permit renewal application with
supplemental information for your review. The landfill cap is projected to be completed by end of summer
and the project team will need the new outfalls to return the flow from this area to the river. The asks are
outlined below.
1. The new outfalls will allow the upland areas to flow to the river. Once the landfill cap is complete
which should be by August there will not be contact water from the upland areas to outfalls G-2, G-3,
G-4.
2. New outfall G-1 will have the ISW from the Combined Cycle that flows from SWO02 and the drainage
area that breaks in drainage area outfall 009. Both drainage area outfall 009 and 002 are currently
collected at the culvert and pumped to outfall 009. The potential industrial activity from break of
outfall 009 is the drainage from the Combined Cycle oil storage and water tower. The oil storage area
is curbed with a shed roof. SWO02 is in the current permit. Once the flow is returned to the river
DRCC would like to sample SWO02 and the drainage area break from 009 at the discharge of the
culvert.
3. SWO10 will flow to G-3. This drainage area is non -contact stormwater. The outfall was used to pump
wetland flows away from the stormwater basin for water management. This outfall can be removed
from the permit.
4. Outfall SWO09 is located within the former remediated coal yard. This outfall can be removed from
the permit.
Please let me know if you have questions or need additional information. Dana and I will be available to
discuss the review at your convenience.
