This letter is in response to your request for additional information in a letter to Mr.
Mitchell Brydge dated June 22, 2006. Revised drawing Number W-2917 and additional
supplement sheets are attached. Following are the responses to your comments.
1. A supplement sheet has been filled out for each bioretention basin. They are
included with this letter. Per our conversation, the maintenance agreement
included with the original submittal is acceptable.
2. The elevation for Outlet Structure #6 has been corrected in the Outlet Structure
Table. The outlet structure detail has been revised to more clearly show the weir
elevation. See sheet 6 of the drawings
3. Specifications have been added to the Bioretention Area Section detail on Sheet 6
of the drawings.
Thank you for your review of our project. Please contact me if you require any
additional information.

Re: Taberna 'Townes Stormwater Management Application DWQ-WARO
Dear Ms. Robbins,
In response to your letter dated March 3, 2006 we are resubmitting the storrizwater
application for Taberna Townes with two copies of the requested soils report.
Please note that the soils were found to have an unacceptable permeability level and will
be replaced with soils in conformance with the NCDENR BMP manual as stated on the
plans. The new soils in conjunction with the proposed underdrains should produce
acceptable drainage for the bioretention areas.
Thank you for taking the time to review our project. Should you require any additional
information, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Rivers and Associates, Inc.

As requested by Mr. Eric Frank, representing Rivers & Associates, Inc. a representative
of Terracon was on site to evaluate the existing soil conditions in the vicinity of the
bioretention ponds for the Taberna Townes project. The project site is currently a cleared,
undeveloped tract of land. Soils were explored using a hand auger.
The purpose of the soils exploration was to determine the classification of the upper soils,
the permeability of these soils and the approximate elevation of the water table.
Three hand auger borings were advanced across the site, the soils were visually classified,
composite samples were obtained from approximately 4 to 6 feet, depending on the depth
to groundwater, and the borings were left open in order to obtain a depth to the water
table.
The lithology of the three borings was relatively consistent at each hand auger location.
An approximate 12 inch thick layer of brown sand was underlain by a 12 inch layer of
clayey sand. Sandy clay was encountered from 2 to 6 feet, underlain by a layer of sand
located near the water table. The soils encountered in the three soil borings varied in
color from brown to gray. The borings were terminated at depths of approximately 6.5
feet.
The following table summarizes the location of the borings and elevation of the water
table at the time of our exploration. See the attached site plan for the location of the soil
borings.

A composite soil sample was obtained from the hand auger borings from a depth of
approximately 4 to 6 feet in each boring. This composite soil sample was remolded at its
natural moisture content and at the approximate natural density, and a laboratory
permeability test was performed in general accordance with ASTM D 5084. Based on the
results of these permeability tests, the permeability of the on -site soils from Hand Auger
Borings 1, 2, and 3 was less than 0.01 inches per hour. Please note that the permeability
shown on the attached test report is listed in cm/sec and was converted to inches per hour.
Mr. Eric Frank was informed of our test results after the conclusion of the permeability
testing on March 24, 2006.
