WINTERVILLE, N.C. 28590 TELEPHONE (252) 353-160V Hite and Associates Bio Retention Area; Havelock High School Expansion ® Havelock, North Carolina Cloudy and warm with rain SEP 1 12002 2058b-$0 DWQ-VVARO PERSONNEL: Bob Neel As requested by Mr. Steve Janowski, representing Hite and Associates, a representative of Titan Atlantic Group, Inc. was on site today to advance hand auger borings at the bio retention area to a depth of at least five feet below the existing site grade. The purpose of the hand auger exploration was to classify the existing soils, to determine the approximate depth to the seasonal high water table and to collect a soil sample for laboratory testing. Three hand auger borings were advanced at the approximate locations as indicated on the attached sketch. Observations made were as follows: Hand Anger Boring One — Soils at this location consist of one foot of topsoil, underlain by dark brown, tan brown and gray silty fine sand to a depth of four feet. At four feet, the soils transition to yellow tan and .Light brown slightly silty fine to mediunh sand. These sandy soils extend to at least six feet. We encountered groundwater at four feet; however, based on soil mottling and soil color, the depth to the seasonal high water table appears to be at approximately 3.5 feet. Hand Auger Boring Two — Soils at this location consist of one foot of topsoil, underlain by dark brown, tan brown and dark gray clayey silty fine sand to a depth of approximately three feet. At three feet, the soils transition to a yellow tan and light brown silty to slightly silty fine to medium sand. These sandy soils extend to at least six feet. We encountered groundwater at 3.5 to four feet; however, based on soil mottling and soil color, the depth to the seasonal high water appears to be at approximately 3.0 feet. I 4-AUG-2e-2002 17:17 P.03/O4 Page 2 Fob Number: 20585-80 Date: August 28, 2002 Hand Auger Haring Three — Soils at this location consist Of one foot of topsoil, underlain by dark brown, tan brown and dark gray clayey silty fine sand to a depth of approximately 2.5 feet. At 2.5 feet, the soils transition to a yellow tan and light brown silty to slightly silty fine to medium sand to a depth of at least six feet. These sandy soils contain occasional thin lenses (six to eight inches thick) of green gray clayey silt or silty clay. We encountered groundwater at three feet; however, based on soil mottling and soil color, the depth to the seasonal high water table appears to be at approximately 2.5 feet. A bull{ soil sample was collected from a depth of 2.5 to 4.0 feet. A standard Proctor compaction test and a remolded (approximately 90 percent of the standard Proctor maximum dry density) permeability test will be performed on the sample collected today. The test results obtained are attached. Mr. Steve Janowski was advised of the observations as discussed herein.
