More frequent inspections by the land owner or pond operator ore strongly encouraged to ensure the proper operation of a wet detention pond. North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources can require more frequent inspections. All North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources codes shall be consulted. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance that has been recorded for this development for additional requirements regarding this wet detention system. A. Rainfall Event 1. inspect the basin after every runoff -producing rainfall event. 2. Remove debris from the trash rack. inlet pipes and outlet pipes. 3. Check and clear the orifice of any obstructions. B. Monthly Inspection 1. Inspect the basin monthly 2. Remove debris from the trash rack, inlet pipes and outlet pipes. 3. Check and clear the orifice of any obstructions. 4. Check the pond side slopes; remove trash and repair eroded areas before the next rainfall event. 5. Check the vegetative and rock filters for sediment accumulation, erosion and proper operation of the flow spreader mechanism and repair as necessary. C. Quarterly inspection 1. Inspect the collection system (i.e. catch basin, pipes and grass swoles) for proper functioning. Clear accumulated trash from basin grates and basin bottoms. Check piping for obstructions. 2. Check pond inlet pipes for undercutting. replace riprop and repair broken pipes. 3. Reseed grassed swales, including the vegetated filter if applicable, twice a year as necessary. Repair eroded areas. immediately. D. Six Month Inspection 1. Remove accumulated sediment from the bottom of the outlet structure or other areas where accumulated sediment is noted. 2. Check the pond depth at various points in the pond. If the depth is reduced to 75% of the original design depth. sediment is to be removed to at least the original design depth. 3. Operate any valves or mechanical components to verify they are in working order. 4. Inspect the embankment taking note of any wet areas where water may be seeping through the soil. Contact the Town Engineering Department if seepage is noted. 5. Remove deposited sediment along vegetated filter strip and concrete level spreader, especially from the upstream edge, to maintain original contours and grading. Repair channels that form and regrade the filter strip to ensure that the runoff flows evenly in a thin sheet over the concrete level spreader. Repair concrete level spreader as necessary and reseed and rregrade the filter strip to maintain a dense growth of vegetation. E. General inspection 1. Mow the side slopes, not including normally submerged vegetated shelf, according to the season. Maximum gross height is to be bin. 2. Cattails and other indigenous wetland plants are encouraged along the perimeter; however, they must be removed when they cover the entire surface area of the pond_ 3. No woody vegetation shall be allowed to grow on the embankment without special design provisions. 4. Debris shall be removed from blocking the inlet and outlet structures and from areas of potential clogging. 5. Periodic removal of dead vegetation shall be accomplished. 6. The orifice is designed to draw down the pond in 2-5 days. If draw down is not accomplished in that time, the system must be clogged. The source of the clogging must be found and eliminated. 7. All components of the detention pond system must be kept in good working order. SCALE N.T.S. 1' PVC TEE JOINT #4 REBAR O 12" OC IN FRONT & REAR FACE OF COLLAR. REBAR TO HAVE 3" MIN.
