Afternoon all, A follow-up concerning the monitoring report (submitted to you on May 131h) & a heads up with the direction of credit release. In review of the report & conducting a site inspection last week, here's my thoughts; and I'm providing them now for any response you may have because the sponsor is looking for stream credits as soon as possible. Last year, we withheld 5% of the stream credits due to abundance of pine/gum along the riparian area & to one location exhibiting some stabilization issues. Sponsor initiated pine suppression August 2019 but didn't get to the instream correction until March 2020. Planted stem survival is good and the suppression should provide ample room to increase growth (which was seen during the visit). However, since the stream correction measure was completed just a few months ago, plans are to keep the withheld 5% of the credits and to reassess that spot toward the end of the summer. I relayed to LMG that we were open to reassess the site at that time to see how well the stabilization measure responds to heavy summer rains. Since March, our area has experienced several heavy rainfall events and it hasn't shown any additional erosion up to the time of our visit. After further onsite investigations, one of the wells (911) that I have expressed the most concern about appears to be located right along the wetland/upland boundary, basically near the point where I would delineate the wetland line. Site conditions just inside where the well is located exhibit wetland conditions and I feel comfortable that it is meeting the established hydrology success criteria for that area. I can discuss this offline if someone would like additional info. There are 2 more years of monitoring the planted stems. Let me know if you are okay with this approach (concerning the 5%) or have any other suggestions/concerns after reviewing the monitoring report.
