Kim Browning Mitigation Project Manager, Regulatory Division I U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 3331 Heritage Trade Dr, Ste. 105 1 Wake Forest, NC 27587 1 919.554.4884 x60 BUILDING STRONG 1 Meeting Notes Date: June 19, 2018 Type of Site: NCDMS Stream Site Prepared By: Kim Browning Sponsor/Provider: NCDMS Meeting Type: Monitoring Site Review County: Cabarrus Action ID: SAW- Basin and HUC: Yadkin - 03040105 Project Name: Little Buffalo Coordinates: I °N °W Attendees: Kim Browning DWR-Mac Haupt DMS-Paul, Kelly Louis Berger- Robin, Matt Hilthouse, Doug, Austin Notes, Sketch, etc.: MY4. 5 year site. MIT Plan not reviewed by IRT previously, close out site. Cattle in buffer last 3 years, invasive, flow concerns on two tribs, areas of low growth. Gages? UT2 & 3- limited Flow. UT 2 didn't have continuous flow 30 days in year 2. UT5 had gauge installed this year. UT3 had repair work, El type work on Ell area. Patchwork from cattle getting in. UT2 more of a linear wetland rather than channel, silted in. 4 plots didn't meet veg but meets with volunteers, some bare areas. Plan to do some planting this fall, may need more monitoring time. VP11 has a lot of shallow bedrock, copper mining, copper toxicity to veg. Crossing being taken out, dealing with property office with DMS. Beaver dams at top of project, still backwater in some areas, pulling out by hand. Invasives Tree of Heaven Palawnia, privet. Reach 1 upper mainstem, veg sparse in VP11, floods. Beaver dam backing water up. P2 floodplain, bare soil. Buffer narrow on one side UT2- more wetland like , pond above, flat with no slope. They can't find the gauge at the bottom of channel(pressure transducer). Mac asked for another gauge half way up the channel towards pond. There is a gauge at top. Mac asked to do a transect for veg. Cattle have been in this area. Veg is very low vigor here. Reach 3 R area has some minor bank erosion. Good substrate and good veg. Reach 4, near UT3, veg is low vigor. Cattle were grazing this area. Veg is a concern. UT3- Ell currently water in channel. R at top. Some work was done in MY2 because cattle were in here, more like El work. Veg is low vigor here. Putting gauge in middle of this reach. UT5- no flow. Veg in channel. Soils have some redox but not hydric in most areas. Probably not credible. UT6- one small area where it flows subsurface about 10 feet Action Items: Page 1 Notes, Sketch, etc.: Page 2
