Septic Tank A new 1,000-gallon septic tank will be installed for this system. The septic tank will include an effluent filter and risers. An Orenco 8"Biotube effluent filter will be installed in the outlet end of the septic tank. New access risers will be installed on both the inlet and outlet ends of the septic tank. To facilitate the installation of the access risers, riser adapters will be cast into the tank top during construction. All wastewater from the single-family residence, including greywater, will be routed into the septic tank. Waste that exits the septic tank will flow into the AdvanTex AX20-RT Treatment Pod. AdvanTex AX20-RT Treatment Pod The treatment component of the system is an AdvanTex AX20-RT treatment pod. The pod is an integrated unit that combines recirculation, treatment, and discharge modules into a single, sealed unit. Liquid from the septic tank will flow via gravity to the inlet of the treatment pod and into the recirculation tank portion of the AX-RT unit. Liquid from the recirculation tank will be periodically applied across the filter fabric. Wastewater will be sprayed over the textile sheets. The wastewater percolates down through the textile sheets and is distributed between the recirculation chamber and discharge chamber by means of the tank baffle. The treated wastewater will be pumped from the AX-RT unit to the discharge outlet. Prior to exiting the AX-RT unit, effluent passes through the UV disinfection system. The recirculation pump is controlled by a system of 3 floats that operate the recirculation pump in a Timed Dose arrangement. Float 1 (lowest elevation) is a Redundant Off float. Float 2 is a Peak Enable Float and Float 3 acts as a High Water Alarm. Under normal operation the Redundant Off float will be engaged thereby activating the timer in the control panel. At the pre-set interval, the pump will engage and distribute effluent over the textile fabric("on"cycle). Following this period, the pump will turn off and rest for a designated time("off'cycle)". During periods of high water in the recirculation portion of the tank, the Peak Enable float will engage and reduce the pre-set"off' 1 time and thereby send increased flow across the fabric. If the water level in the recirculation tank continues to rise for a pre-set time period, the High Water Alarm will activate. To prevent groundwater from affecting the pod,the pod will be installed on a bed of gravel. Anti- flotation measures or a concrete ring installed around the mid-flange will be installed to provide extra ballast to prevent the flotation of the pod during high water table conditions. UV Disinfection Disinfection for the system will be accomplished using a UV system. The UV light should operate for approximately one year prior to needing to be replaced. If the UV light burns out or loses sufficient intensity(below a set threshold)an alarm will activate and disable the system pump. An alarm light on the control panel will also illuminate. When the alarm is activated, the homeowner should reduce water use(laundry, dishes, washing)until the system is operating properly. Treated effluent can be sampled from the UV housing. Discharge Outlet The system discharges into a ditch on the eastern part of the property. Riprap will be placed at the discharge location to provide aeration of the water as it is discharged and also as erosion protection. Vegetation and debris should be kept clear of the discharge location. A grate will be installed on the discharge pipe to prevent animals and rodents from entering the discharge pipe. Control Panel One control panel will be installed with this wastewater system. This panel will control operation of the re-circulation pump and UV system. If desired, this panel can be connected to a land-based phone line that will notify the operator of system operation. 2 Discharge Wastewater Treatment System Design Calculations Date: 5-Jun-20 PROJECT: Tim Coykendall Residence Location: 209 Creeks Edge Chapel Hill,NC 27516 County: Chatham County SEPTIC TANK SIZING Daily Flow Estimate Flow/Unit #of Units 'Units (gpd/unit) Flow/Day(gpd) 3 BR 120 360 TOTAL DAILY FLOW(Q)= 360 gpd Septic Tank Volume/Size(based on denitrification process) Approximate Return Flow from Pod 540 gpd 60%of Daily Flow 216 gpd Total(approx 1 day retention) 756 gal TANK SIZE PROVIDED= 1,000 gal. Absolutely NO WATER REQUIRED for backfill. The tank is specifically designed to be backfilled WITHOUT WATER. The use of water prior to backfilling is not necessary and may cause installation problems. A nominal amount of water (6-8") may be used to ballast tank during backfilling. 2. The tank MUST BE BEDDED IN SCREENED MATERIAL (sand, pea gravel, stone dust, or other flowable fines). Native material is acceptable if it exhibits the same characteristics as select fill. 3. It is imperative that the TANK HAUNCH BE SUPPORTED WITH FILL. This is the area of the tank under the mold part-line along the sidewalls curving down to the belly of the tank. 4. The TANK BELLY MUST BE SUPPORTED WITH FILL. Due to the unique process, our tanks have a slight concave shape to the belly. Make sure that tank feet seated in the backfill and that the tank belly is well supported. 5. Our tanks achieve full structural integrity once installed properly. SIDEWALL COMPRESSION THROUGH COMPACTED BACKFILL is the key to this integrity. Use backhoe to compact sidewall backfill if possible. 6. CORRUGATIONS MUST BE PACKED SOLIDLY with backfill to achieve this. Compact backfill in 6" lifts as you backfill excavation. 7. Backfill tank to top of roof all the way around, then BACKFILL BETWEEN RISERS FIRST, then around the endwalls of tank. This technique will prevent backfill from pushing risers"in"or toward one another. 8. In areas of high groundwater, the tank MUST BE FILLED immediately following backfill. 9. Tanks are not designed or rated for vehicular traffic. Avoid operation of vehicles heavier than 2500 pounds. Maximum burial depth is 36" below grade. 10. Drill the"A" dimples for ALL STATES AND PROVINCES (CANADA) EXCEPT FLORIDA, ILLINOIS, ARIZONA AND NEBRASKA. The dimples are pre-offset at the factory. Drill the "B"dimples for Illinois, Arizona and Nebraska. All Florida destined tanks are pre-drilled. 11. For burial depths of 36"—48", please follow the above steps but use select material for backfill to at least the top of the tank. Native material may be used for the cover providing it is absolutely free of clay and is a material that drains well. If surface water or saturated soils are a concern, install gravel or other well-draining material in lieu of any native material except for a minimum amount of top soil necessary to establish ground cover. 12. For burial depths great than 48" (no greater than 72"), follow all of the above steps. In addition, a Schedule 40 PVC pipe support must be added between the roof and the floor just inside the edge of each manway in the mid-body of the tank. From the outside of the tank you can easily observe the pipe mounting tenons that are molded into the top of the first"trough"or inward corrugation past the manway. Each pipe should be field measured and cut due to nominal differences in the internal dimension of the tank. 13. Guidance for Installation of Pumps and Appurtenances: Pumps shall be supported on a stable 16"x 16" base positioned on the bottom of the tank. A 3-inch thick pre-cast concrete block is an acceptable pump support. The support base shall be placed below an access opening. The support base shall be level bearing on the ribs on the bottom of the tank. Installation of products including the electrical conduit and wiring, pumps, water level control/alarm equipment, piping, valves, siphon equipment, etc. shall be in accordance with the product manufacturer's instructions and installed in accordance with applicable state and local codes, rules and regulations. Appurtenances shall be installed to facilitate maintenance and repair access via the tank access openings. M U LTITAN K Installation Instructions MultiTank Compartment Wall Assembly Compartment Wall Description- The Roth Compartmen t wall assembly, figure 1 , includes three blow molded HDPE Panels, two sidewall and one center, and six cable zip ties. Figure 1 To. of •anel assembl The three panels install in the tank such that the curved profile locks into the ribs in the bottom of the tank and the flat profile is toward the top of the tank. The flat profile at the top creates the required ventilation gap between the top of the compartment wall and the roof of the tank. Panel Orientation- To verify that you have the panels oriented correctly, check to see that the circular knockout templates are toward the top of the panel and the slotted knockout templates are toward the bottom as shown in figure 1 . The side panels are "left hand" and "right hand" and need to be oriented such that the center panel laps over them to allow the holes to line up. 1 - R, _ iin 1 /u\ U LTITANK Installation Instructions MultiTank Compartment Wall Assembly Assembly of the panel sections- The six cable ties are provided to fasten the panel sections together. Carefully read and follow all instructions. Improper installation may void warranties. IMPORTANT The backwash discharge from a salt-type water softener MUST NOT be plumbed into an AX-RT Treatment Unit or the preceding septic tank.Failure to follow this instruction, or any other in this manual, will void the system's warranty. Contact your AdvanTex Dealer if you have any questions about any household plumbing arrangements that may interfere with the functioning of the system. lacNote:All pipe diameters provided are U.S. nominal PVC pipe sizes. If you are using metric pipe, you may need adapters to connect to the U.S. fittings supplied with AdvanTex Treatment Systems. Septic Tanks Used in AX-AT Treatment Systems Be sure that any septic tank used in an AX-RT Treatment System meets the following conditions: •The tank must conform to an approved and authorized tank design for AdvanTex Systems, and it must meet all applicable regula- tory requirements(no pour-in-place tanks, no homemade tanks,etc.).Call your local Dealer for specifics. •The tank must be structurally sound. •The tank must have at least 1000 gal. (3800 L) capacity for an AX20-RT, 1250 gal. (4730 L)for a 5-bedroom AX25-RT,and 1500 gal. (5680 L)for a 6-bedroom AX25-RT at the normal operating level (below the invert of the outlet). •The tank must have an at-grade access with a watertight, securable and removable lid. If it doesn't,an at-grade access must be installed onto the septic tank and be made watertight. •The tank must be watertight and free of leaks. •An Orenco effluent filter(model FTSO444-36V, FTW0444-36V,or FTO822-14B) must be installed in the septic tank. Key Point:For existing septic tanks—the tank's depth of burial must allow for a minimum fall of 1i8 inch per foot(10 mm per meter or 1%)from the septic tank's invert of outlet to the AX-RT unit's invert of the inlet. If sufficient fall cannot be met,a grade ring extension must be installed on the AX-RT or a pumping system will need to be installed in the septic tank to move the filtered effluent to the AX-RT unit. The assembly is detachable without removal of the screened pump vault or effluent screen.A typical float switch assembly is shown below. Each float cable is provided with a color marker. This marker indicates the 0 '- N.b function of the float. Make sure that your float cable color markers corre- spond with the wiring diagram provided. If the wiring diagram does not Float function match your float cable marker colors, contact Orenco Systems®Inc.or color marker your local dealer for assistance. 1 Float stem Adjustable float 1 collar Stainless steel set screw t ` 1111 EC US 0,_Io Float go , , ..___. Iwo Ili Step 4: © `a I Check the float settings with the project plans and specifications. If the set- tings need to be adjusted, loosen the set screw as described in step 3. Adjust the float switches to the desired level and tighten the set screw. Make sure float level settings do not violate any state or local regulations. Note: The float stem provided is the maximum length possible without interfering with the pump minimum liquid level or screened pump vault 4 . intake ports.Never lengthen the float stem without prior approval from it;1 Orenco. Lengthening of the float stem will void the warranty. 1111, Step 5:© Replace the float switch assembly in the holding bracket.Make sure the + assembly snaps fully into the bracket. .. To allow for easy removal of a float switch assembly,a 1"diameter handle I may be added to the top of the float switch assembly.Measure the distance from the top of the float switch assembly up to about one foot from grade level.Cut a 1" diameter PVC pipe to the measured length and glue it into the handle. 1.1.0110 NIN-MF-MF-1 ©2003 Orenco Systems'Inc. NIN-MF-MF-1 Rev.2.0,©11/04 Page 3 of 4 4 ', 4 Maintenance Instructions Oroneo Systems Incorporated 1-800-348-9843 During the annual inspection, follow the testing procedures provided to ensure that the system is operating properly. If a float is found to be faulty, either during the annual inspection or during troubleshooting after an alarm condition, see the section below titled Removing and Replacing Inoperative Floats. Removing and Replacing Inoperative Floats Important. Before doing any work either on the wiring to the level control floats and pump in the vault or in the pump control panel, switch the circuit breakers in the panel to their"OFF"positions;then switch off the power to the system at the service entrance panel. 1. Remove the float assembly from the vault. 2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the stainless steel screws from the splice box lid, being careful not to drop the screws into the tank. If the splice box was submerged,or if there is a crack in the conduit, there may be water in the splice box. If this is the case, remove water from the splice box with a syringe, sponge,or other appropriate method.Loosen the cord grip at the splice box and verify the appropriate splice for the float. Unscrew the wire nuts and remove the float. 3. Remove the inoperative float and replace it with a new one. Push the float cable through the watertight cord grip into the electrical splice box.Leave an adequate length of electrical cord coiled inside the riser to allow for easy removal of the float assembly. Do not remove the colored markers or the paper tags from the float cords, and do not try to thread the markers and tag through the cord grip.Tighten the cord grip by hand, not by tool, then test the tightness of the cord grip by tugging on the cord.A cord is secure when the cord grip is tight enough to prevent slippage. An adequate length of cord should be left within the splice box to allow for easy removal for future disconnecting and resplicing. 4. Refer to document EIN-SB-SB-1 for instructions to splice the float wire to the wire from the control panel.Attach the float wires using the waterproof wire nuts. It is necessary to replace this wire nut with a new watertight wire nut.Always use watertight wire nuts or heat shrink splice kits for all connections! 5. Replace the float and collar and return the assembly to the pump vault. 6. Reconnect power and test the unit. NIN-MF-MF-1 ©2003 Orenco Systems Inc. Rev.2.0,©11/04 Page 4 of
