Tim Heim of the Asheville Regional Office performed a Compliance Evaluation Inspection on June 11,
2020.
Teresa Williams (Lead EHS Professional, BORC), Maria Keezel (ORC) and Matthew Fields
(Subcontractor- BORC) of Duke Energy were present at the time of the inspection.
The inspection included a file review as well as a facility inspection of permitted NPDES Outfalls,
including Outfalls 001, 0101, 002, 001 A, 001 B, 001 C, 001 D, and the WesTech WWTP that treats water
from the 64' Ash Basin. Duke staff report that Outfall 002 was placed into service on June 10, 2020.
Outfall 004 has not been used since the 2015 shutdown, and Outfall 005 was demolished and removec
in 2015. Sample record keeping is thorough and well organized.
At the time of the inspection, all treatment units and outfalls appeared to be operating within compliance
to permit NC0000396 and no violations of permit conditions were observed. The new combined cycle
gas turbine units are now online, demolition of the coal-fired generating units is progressing, and work
to remove CCP from the '64 Ash Basin continues.
