Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application: The trail will be a T wide natural trail leading from a proposed parking lot to the Blueway Assess point for Lake Reidsville. It will run vertical through the buffer. The total land disturbance through the buffer is approximately 350 sq. ft. Close to the waters edge there may require several railroad ties. Trees have been removed due to the overhead Duke Energy Transmission Line easement. The existing trees are along the waters edge, however, efforts will be made to maneuver around them. The has a 1.4% slope. The general area is low density residential. 3b. Proposed Activity Provide a detailed description of the proposed activity including its purpose and include the type of equipment to be used: The trail will be a natural trail surface for kayakers to access the McCoy Rd Blueway Access Point to Lake Reidsville. In the 50' riparian buffer a compact mini -excavator will be used and trail will be hand finished with landscape architect supervision. Hand tools include rouge hoes, McLeods and pruners. No trees greater than 5" in diameter will be removed. There will be larger equipment used for the parking lot construction which is well out of the riparian buffer. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing the project.* The area of construction was chosen to avoid impact as it is used as a Duke Energy easement with most tree growth removed. The trail width is minimal at T wide but will allow two passing individuals with kayaks. The trail tread is measured with a clinometer to avoid too steep trail tread. 1b. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques.* Trail construction disturbance will be constrained to the immediate area of the trail corridor and will comprise removal of small vegetation and organic topsoil. Grading and underlying mineral soil will be minimal. Daily disturbance area will be very minimal as the sq. ft. of the trail through the buffer is 350 sq. ft. total. E. Diffuse Flow Plan 1a. We are not changing the drainage area flowing to the lake and the proposed path is a natural dirt path. No storm drainage pipe or systems are needed in the lake buffer area.
