The guys have installed the best looking sediment fencing I have ever seen, and nothing appears to be leaving the site other than it small amount of erosion around a culvert and crossing on a haul road which is to be widened at some point. We did not see any sediment entering the ditch or stream where it was called subject (which is sort of unusual on the plan map anyway), but it looks like they are buffering more than they need to. Jeffrey Kornegay was the Engineering consultant hired to draw up the plan, and according to his map there is a subject portion up to a stream origin, then there is an exempt area, and then continuing upstream there is another subject area. All of this is currently buffered and there are no plans that Mr. Gurley mentioned to enter the buffer. Mr. Gurley did have some questions: first: is using irrigation as a method of dewatering to adjacent ag lands (estimated 100-150 acres) second: refilling a nonproductive area of the mine third: mining where there is an existing haul road between two pits fourth: widening an existing stream crossing (within the buffer according to his map) along a haul road. I told him that he should contact land quality or you and ask about the requirements for a modification of the existing permit to allow far the changes in the current plan. I will be taking tomorrow off, and will only be in on Monday of next week, so if you need any questions answered just give me a call on my cell phone..... it's no problem.
