Here is a response to DWQ's latest comments.
Is it necessary to have a standard 2 lane highway back into hunting cabins where a one lane road will work??
The applicant considered reducing the proposed road width leading to the second upland island. As depicted in the road
cross section provided by Thomas Engineering, the road itself will only be 22' in width. Shoulders and swales are
necessary to ensure safety and provide stabilization. Furthermore, the site is also used for timber production and the
proposed road will provide access to large equipment needed to harvest trees. Adequate road width is needed for this
equipment.
All so had questions on hydraulic connectivity of wetlands from roadway construction, pipe placement of 20% for low flow
conditions, and riprap used in wetland areas, at end of pipes, for stabilization???
The applicant plans to install culverts under the roadways, as depicted in the revised drawings provided by Thomas
Engineering (attached). As these drawings show, the culverts will be buried partially under the ground elevation so that
they outfall into the adjacent swales. The contractor will insure that the culverts are buried a minimum of 20% of the pipe's
diameter.
Detail EC2 (Sheet 6) shows the proposed rip rap outlet protection. This rip rap will be placed in the swales where the
culvert ends and will not increase overall wetland impacts.
The area where roadway has buffer impacts is a pipe needed here for connectivity?
Sheet 4 of 6 shows a culvert in the vicinity of the proposed buffer impact.
