Comments concerning each of the schools are offered below. Inspection reports are attached. Due to scheduling difficulties in this agency's laboratory, no samples were collected. _Compliance judgements were based upon observations and review of operational records. BATON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Compliance Evaluation Inspection NPDES Permit Number NCO030783 Status: Compliance The discharge from the school's septic tank -subsurface sand filter was clean and clear in appearance. The operator's log book and calibration records revealed adequate operational attention. The system appeared well maintained. The sand filter was dry, free of vegetation and accumulated solids. HAPPY VALLEY SCHOOL Compliance Evaluation Inspection NPDES Permit Number NCO041181 Status: Compliance A clean, clear discharge was trickling from the system. The operating sand bed was partially plugged with fine solids. As discussed in previous correspondence, the device that alternates flow to the sand filters should be repaired. Repair of the alternating device will minimize required operational attention and maximize longevity of sand in the system. For Happy Valley and other schools at which water records are used to determine flow, the water records must be maintained with the wastewater facilitv's data.
