We will be submitting an "Additional Information" package for the changes for this
project. Nikki, this is the information that we have previously discussed for this project
at Station 27+20. I am still awaiting hardcopies of the final revised drawings. Eric, I
was waiting for the final drawings that I could scan to send to you. In the interest of
time, It may be better for me to stop by your office to discuss with you, if you can let
me know when you will be available.
In addition to what was previously discussed with you Nikki, we are proposing to shorten
the "water quality pipe (WQP)" where it enters the lever spreaders at two sites: left or
27+80 and 43+60. The design change is due to the concern that stormwater outletting to
the WQPs sometimes has a tendency to "push" water over the level spreader ahead of
the outlet instead of totally filling the level spreader, as intended (this is in fact why the
PSH was left in place at 27+20 when the new level spreader was added there). Instead
of having the pipe end directly ahead of the level spreader, the pipe will be shortened to
end 16 feet short of the level spreader at 27+80 and end 10 feet short of the level
spreader at 43+60. A flared riprap-lined ditch will be used from the end of the pipe to
the level spreader to allow some energy dissipation before the flow enters the level
spreader. The attached figures depict the original permitted designs and the revised
designs at the two locations. There will be no additional impacts to surface waters
or buffer to this change.
As this is the U51 / Hwy 64 widening project, it is imperative that work progresses. As
there are no additional impacts, we plan on proceeding with the work, and will be
submitting an "Additional Information" letter that includes figures and narrative for the
design changes at Station 27+20, 27+80, and 43+60. I want to make sure that this is
discussed with DWQ and USACE and that there aren't any issues that would not allow us
to proceed.. Again, the figures for Stations 27+80 and 43+60 are attached. Nikki, you
have a copy of the figures for Station 27+20, and Eric, I'd like to provide you with
figures for Station 27+20 and discuss the redesign there. Eric, please let me know when
you are available for a few minutes, and I'll stop by your office.
