4a. Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinityof the project at the time of this application:*
This is a residential lot, with a 3 bedroom house. The lot has 124 feet of frontage on the New River.
Work vras done to stabilize the bank in 2015, with the New River Conservancy. The bank was planted with shrubs for stabilization. The shrubs did not hold the bank during flood events.
We have lost several feet of bank since the planting. It is only during flooding events that we lose the soils on the bank.
4b. Have Corps permits or DWR certifications been obtained for this project (including all prior phases) in the past?*
r Yes r No r Unknown

4h. Explain the purpose of the proposed project:*
The purpose of the project will be to stabilize the river bank and stop or reduce soils lost during flooding.
41. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:*
Our plan is to haul large rocks, 0.5-2.0 foot diameter, to within 20 feet of the bank of the river. The rock will be hauled on a single axle dump truck. No rock will be dumped directly into
the river. The rock will be placed on the river bank, starting at the bottom and working to the top, using a track hoe or back hoe. Each rock will be individually placed to minimize and
potential disturbance to the rive bank.
Over the next 3 years native shrubs will be planted between the rocks. This would include shrubs such as blueberry.
4j. Please upload project drawings for the proposed project.

r Yes 6 No
7b. If yes, explain.
The rock will be placed first. As it fills in with dirt, shrubs will be planted between the rocks to help with stabilization in the future.

E. Impact Justification and Mitigation U
1. Avoidance and Minimization
1a. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing the project:
Rock Will be hauled with a small dump truck. It Will be dumped on the first terrace above the river. No rock will be dumped into the river.
1b. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques:
Rocks will be placed individually on the bank by a tract hoe, to minimize and impact to the soils on the stream bank.

Warning: Soil Map may not be valid at this scale.
Enlargement of maps beyond the scale of mapping can cause
misunderstanding of the detail of mapping and accuracy of soil
line placement. The maps do not show the small areas of
contrasting soils that could have been shown at a more detailed
scale.

Maps from the Web Soil Survey are based on the Web Mercator
projection, which preserves direction and shape but distorts
distance and area. A projection that preserves area, such as the
Albers equal-area conic projection, should be used if more
accurate calculations of distance or area are required.
This product is generated from the USDA-NRCS certified data as
of the version date(s) listed below.
Soil Survey Area: Ashe County, North Carolina
Survey Area Data: Version 16, Sep 16, 2019
Soil map units are labeled (as space allows) for map scales
1:50,000 or larger.
Date(s) aerial images were photographed: Oct 29, 2011—Nov
28, 2017
The orthophoto or other base map on which the soil lines were
compiled and digitized probably differs from the background
imagery displayed on these maps. As a result, some minor
shifting of map unit boundaries may be evident.
