Site Visit Date: April 7, 2020
General Summary:
This memo serves as a summary for an IRT virtual site tour conducted for the as built of the Poplar Creek Mitigation Site
on April 7, 2020. On Monday April 6th, RES supplied the IRT with an ArcGIS StoryMap loaded with drone videos, site
photos, and interactive maps. Most IRT members were able to navigate through the StoryMap before the meeting and the
group discussed site specific details as well the overall utility of the StoryMap for the virtual visit.
Specific IRT comments below:
Sam Dailey (USACE):
- Having stationing on the photo viewer map would be helpful to compare the map/photos to the as -built plans
- Drone footage provided a nice snapshot of the overall site conditions
- Generally felt comfortable with treating this virtual tour as the official site visit
Todd Tugwell (USACE):
- Would like RES to explore the ability to represent the difference between approved plan and constructed site
conditions on the interactive map viewer. Could this be achieved with some clarifications in the legend?
- Appreciate the ability to review the videos before the call, as trying to go through a video on a call could be a
limitation. For future visits, provide StoryMap at least a few weeks earlier and allow IRT to comment on areas
that they would like more detailed information/videos to be gathered.
- YB3- a lot of invasives removed seem to be left in the channel. This was not on purpose and RES will remove.
- YB2- Were there aquatic species coming up within the stream and does RES expect this to be a problem? We
have noted this and plan to track and treat as necessary. Ryan pointed out obvious thalweg within those areas
shown on the video.
Kim Browning (USACE):
- Vegetation might be a limitation of virtual visits, especially on constructed sites
- More detail about the veg plots would have been helpful. Maybe a frame dedicated to vegetation?
Mac Haupt (DWR):
- Still would prefer site visits, but this could be viable alternative for some situations
- Drone footage was well done, especially liked the overview flight followed by the detailed, low elevation flight
Erin Davis (DWR):
- Thought the photo viewer was very helpful to look at specific structures.
- Callouts within the video were helpful.
Katie (DWR):
- More pictures would have been helpful for the vegetation (as discussed with Ryan via Zoom chat)
- Would 360 degree photos help supplement veg plot photos?
- RES should add some additional transect data to support overall veg condition
