The proposed Rutherfordton Bypass would extend along existing US 221 from north of 74 Bypass to north of .US 74 Business (R-2233 BA) and on new location from north of US 74 Business to US 221 just north of SIR 1366, (R-2233 BB). The proposed bypass would be constructed as a four -lane roadway with a 46-foot median and would be approximately 8.5 miles long. In response to this application, the Corps has released a Public Notice which is available on the Wilmington District Web Site at https://www.saw.usace.army.mil/Missions/Regulatory-Permit-Program/Public-Notices/ The Corps Action ID for this project is SAW-2008-02857. The purpose of this Public Notice is to solicit comments from the public; federal, state and local agencies and officials, including any consolidated State Viewpoint or written position of the Governor; Indian Tribes and other interested parties in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity. Any comments received will be considered by the Corps to determine whether to issue, modify, condition, or deny a permit for this proposal pursuant to applicable procedures of the following Statutory Authorities: Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (33 U.S.C. 1344) and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. 403). Written comments will be received by the Corps until 5pm, May 29, 2020.
