RE: Request for comments on NC 43 widening from US 264 to NC 11, Greenville, Pitt County,
NCDOT TIP No. U-5018
Dear Mr. Hennessey:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is preparing the planning and
environmental studies for widening of NC 43 in Pitt County. We anticipate that the project will be
processed as a Minimum Criteria Checklist. The project is included in NCDOT's 2007-2013
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as TIP Project No. U-5018.
The purpose of this letter is to solicit your input concerning the potential impact of the proposed
project upon social, economic, demographic, land use or environmental conditions near the project.
A vicinity map is attached illustrating the location of the project, which is divided into three distinct
sections:

Section 1 - US 264 to B's Barbeque Road, widen existing two lanes to four-lane divided
with shoulder section.
Section 2 - B's Barbeque Road to Paladin Drive, widen existing two lanes to four-lane
divided with curb and gutter.
Section 3 - Paladin Drive to NC 11, convert existing five-lane curb and gutter to four-lane
divided. Existing curb and gutter will be retained.
Please note that there will be no formal interagency scoping meeting for this project. This letter
constitutes solicitation for scoping comments. To allow us to fully evaluate the impacts of the
proposed project, please respond in writing to my attention by July 9, 2007 concerning any beneficial
or adverse impacts of the proposed project relating to the interest of your agency.
