Dry Bottom Ash Handling System
As a result of Coal Ash Management Act and the federal CCR Rule, Cliffside Station's bottom ash handling
must be converted from a wet sluice operation to a dry ash handling system. The Dry Bottom Ash Handling
System project will include the following water pollution control facilities:
• Ash bunker
• SFC conveyor and discharge chute
• ID Fan Drive Building
• Pyrites Recirculation System
See diagram below for more information on the placement of these water pollution control facilities.
Cliffside Unit 5 Under Boiler SFC Installation
Lined Retention Basins
At Cliffside station, low volume and process flow streams are routed to the ash basin prior to discharging. The ash
basin allows solids to settle out and for the various flows to comingle prior to the NPDES sampling point. As a result
of Coal Ash Management Act and the federal CCR Rule, Cliffside's ash basin will not be allowed to receive these
flows. The Lined Retention Basins project will include the following water pollution control facilities:
• Lined holding basin
• Lined auxillary basin
• Below Ground Piping for Basin Pump Structure
• New Grit Chamber
See diagram below for more information on placement of these water pollution control facilities.
Stormwater/Wastewater Reroute
Duke Energy/Cliffside Station is performing a Water Redirect Project to reroute storm water and process flows
(SWPW) to an Active Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWT).
The Stormwater/Wastewater Reroute project includes the following water pollution control facilities:
• US Plant Disposal Sump Pumps
• U6 Process Sump Pumps
• Auxiliary Basin Sump Pumps
• Holding Basin Pumps
• US Fly Ash Silo Sump Pumps
• US and U6 Dechlorination Building with associated piping, cabling, and controls
• Pressure & gravity piping systems to redirect process Flows to the WWT (FRP/HDPE)
See diagram below for more information on placement of these water pollution control facilities.

Active Wastewater Treatment System
As a result of Coal Ash Management Act and the federal CCR Rule, Cliffside's ash basin will not be allowed to
receive wastewater flows. The Active Wastewater Treatment System will treat the plant wastewater for suspended
solids and pH to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements prior to
discharging into a new outfall. The Active Wastewater Treatment System project will include the following water
pollution control facilities:
• two Equalization tanks (IM Gal each)
• two sludge thickener tanks
• two reaction tanks
• Water Treatment Equipment
• chemical feed equipment
• DCS equipment
• Power Control Module equipment
See diagrams below for more information on placement of these water pollution control facilities.
