1. AN EROSION CONTROL BLANKET SHALL BE USED TO STABILIZE THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED AND
EXISTING CHANNEL FROM THE TOP OF BANK TO TOE OF SLOPE AND SHALL BE 100%
BIODEGRADABLE.
2. THE CHANNEL SIDE SLOPES SHALL BE FINE GRADED, SEEDED, FERTILIZED, AND LIMED WHERE
APPLICABLE PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE EROSION CONTROL BLANKET. REMOVE ROOTS, TWIGS, AND
OTHER DEBRIS WHICH WOULD CAUSE BULGES IN THE MATTING AS WELL AS PREVENT THE MATTING
FROM BEING LAID FLUSH TO THE FINISHED SURFACE.
3. KEY -IN EDGES OF MATTING A MINIMUM OF 6 INCHES INTO FINISHED GRADE. LAY MATTING
SHINGLED DOWNSTREAM TO UPSTREAM, OVERLAPPING AT EDGES A MINIMUM OF 1 FOOT.
4. INSTALL STAKES TO ENSURE GOOD GROUND CONTACT OF THE MATTING TO WITHSTAND MEDIUM TO
HIGH FLOWS. STAKES SHALL BE 100% BIODEGRADABLE AND INSTALLED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S
SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED DENSITY
AND PATTERN.
5. KEY -IN EDGES OF MATTING A MINIMUM OF 6 INCHES. CHECK MATTING FOR LOOSE ENDS, FLAPS,
OR OTHER WEAKNESSES OR DAMAGE WHICH MAY CAUSE IT TO BECOME LOOSE UNDER FLOW
CONDITIONS.
6. THE EROSION CONTROL BLANKET SHALL CONSIST OF A MACHINE -PRODUCED BLANKET MADE OF
COCONUT FIBER AND BE EQUIVALENT OR BETTER THAN THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION. SOIL
STABILIZATION MATTING WHICH USES PLASTICS, METALS, OR OTHER MAN-MADE MATERIALS IN THE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE MATERIAL WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.

6. CUTTINGS FOR LIVE STAKES SHALL BE HARVESTED IN A MANNER SUCH THAT THEY ARE CUT, IMMEDIATELY PUT INTO
WATER TO BE SOAKED FOR TEN DAYS, AND THEN PLANTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TEN DAYS ARE COMPLETED.
CUTTINGS SHALL REMAIN WET UNTIL THEY ARE PLANTED. OUTSIDE STORAGE LOCATIONS SHOULD BE CONTINUALLY SHADED
AND PROTECTED FROM WIND AND DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
7. LIVE STAKES SHALL BE TAMPED AT AN ANGLE INTO THE GROUND SURFACE WITH A DEAD BLOW HAMMER, WITH BUDS
ORIENTED IN AN UPWARD DIRECTION. STAKES SHOULD BE TAMPED UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF THE STAKE LENGTH IS
WITHIN THE GROUND. ANY STAKES THAT ARE SPLIT OR DAMAGED DURING INSTALLATION SHALL BE REMOVED AND
REPLACED.
8. THE AREA AROUND EACH LIVE STAKE SHALL BE COMPACTED BY FOOT AFTER THE LIVE STAKE HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
9. ONE TO TWO INCHES SHALL BE CUT CLEANLY OFF OF THE TOP OF EACH LIVE STAKE (WITH LOPPERS) AT AN ANGLE OF
APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES FOLLOWING INSTALLATION.
