Narrative for the Modification of Permit # W 0039049 (Spelight School Road Sanitary Sewer
Project
Town of Saratoga — Sartoga-Wilson Sanitary Sewer Connection Project
Project No. E-SRP-W-17-0118
The project changes the recipient of the Town of Saratoga`s waste water from the Town of
Stantonsburg to the City of Wilson.
A new force main will be installed from the existing main pump station, Varnell Street Pump
Station, to an existing gravity MH just upstream of the recently constructed Speight School Lift
Station. This portion of the improvements for the project will be covered under a separately
issued permit that has been applied for as part of this project but is not currently covered.
Varnell Street Pump Station was apparently constructed before records of lift station permits
were kept or have been lost over time.
As part of this modification to permit # WQ0039049, the Speight School Road Pump Station will
be upgraded and a new 8" force main will be installed to connect to the City of Wilson Sanitary
Sewer System. The installation of the 16,580 LF of 8" force main along with two separate
direction bores totaling 500 LF under existing waterways along with the associated air release
manholes and valves will be installed with and along the right of ways of Speight School Roadn
and Grimsley Store Road. The 3" force main that currently coneys waste water from the Speight
School Road Lift Station to the Town of Saratoga collection system will be abandoned as part of
this modification

• 350-foot Directional Bore
• 150-foot Directional Bore
• Air Release manholes and valves
• Dry bore with casing under road

We're reviewing the subject application. The previous permit for the Speight School Road Sewer Project included 2,780
If of 8-inch gravity sewer that is not included in this application. The removal of the gravity sewer was not mentioned in
the narrative.
When we modify a permit, everything from the previous permit needs to be included in the modified permit, unless it
will be removed from the project.
Just to confirm — does this application need to include any gravity sewer?
We'll continue drafting the permit upon submittal and review of this info.

We're reviewing the subject application. The previous permit for the Speight School Road Sewer Project
included 2,7801f of 8-inch gravity sewer that is not included in this application. The removal of the gravity
sewer was not mentioned in the narrative.

When we modify a permit, everything from the previous permit needs to be included in the modified permit,
unless it will be removed from the project.
Just to confirm -- does this application need to include any gravity sewer?
We'll continue drafting the permit upon submittal and review of this info.

Stantonsburg Staff,
I work for the NC Division of Water Resources.
We recently received a Sewer Extension Permit Application from the Town of Saratoga for the connection of the
Saratoga Sewer System to the City of Wilson.
We wanted to make sure you were aware of this.
We also recollect past conversations with the Town of Stantonsburg about the ability of Stantonsburg to continue to
operate their wastewater treatment plant without the revenue from Saratoga for transporting and treating their
wastewater. We wanted to follow-up on this, and see if Stantonsburg has any plans regarding this.
