Subject: Request for extension of verifications with May 2010 expiration dates.
The four referenced USACE Action IDs (permit cover sheets attached) are linked to
Moving Ahead bridge projects which were permitted in 2008, each with expiration dates of
May 2010. These projects have not been built yet and Bridge Numbers 76, 17, 5.have recently
been released for construction with December 2009 let dates. Bridge Number 38 will have a
February 2010 let date. With construction expected to begin in early 2010, these projects will not
be completed by their current expiration dates. Please note that there have been no changes to
proposed construction details or environmental impacts, therefore permit modifications are not
necessary, but we request that their expiration dates be extended. By copy of this letter we are
informing NCDWQ of the need for expiration date extensions from the USAGE. Since each of
the associated WQC authorizations were issued after the 11/01/07 effective date of the new
general certifications, then NCDWQ WQC modifications or revisions should not be necessary.
As sated on their approval forms, the 401 Water Quality Certifications will expire with the
accompanying 404 permit. Therefore extensions to the 404 permits should be all that is needed in
order for the 401 permits to remain 'valid. If you have any questions or need additional
