Subject: Request for a NW 3 Permit and DWQ 401 for the replacement of Bridge # 90 over Cypress Creek
on SR 1324 in Northampton County.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a NW 3 permit
and corresponding DWQ certification for the replacement of bridge # 90 in Northampton County. The
bridge is located on SR 1324 Peanut Market Rd approximately 2 miles north of the intersection of NC 186.
The bridge spans Cypress Creek, which is classified by DWQ as class "C, NSW" waters. Bridge # 90 is
currently a concrete structure that is 50 ft. long by 25 ft. wide. This structure will be removed using
NCDOT's guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed bridge will be replaced on its existing alignment.
The new bridge structure will be 90 ft. in length by 30 ft. wide and built with precast cored slab concrete
deck, support piles and bents. The bridge roadway approaches will not have to be reconstructed. An off-
site detour will be used during construction.

The existing bridge is a 25' X 50' concrete bridge with 1 interior bent which is constructed of wooden piles with a concrete
cap . The existing roadway is a 20 ft. asphalt surface with 6-8 ft. grassed shoulders. This bridge crosses Cypress Creek,
which is classified as Class "C, NSW". Land use within the project area is agricultural, and undeveloped forrest.

Replace bridge # 90, which has had recent damage to the support structure and as a result was closed to traffic.
3e. Describe the overall project in detail, including the type of equipment to be used:
The existing concrete bridge deck and interior bent will be removed in accordance with NCDOT guidelines for bridge
demolition and removal. The new bridge will be 90 feet in length by 30 feet wide. The new bridge will be a three span
cored slab concrete structure supported by concrete piles. The approaches will remain the same width, resulting in no
wetland impacts. Approximately 40' of the old causeway will be removed. Equipment used during this project will include
a crane, excavator, grading equipment, and dump trucks.
